The annual meeting of AIB-Oceania is renowned for its informal and collegial character. Join us in person on 24-25 November 2022 for the Annual Research Symposium and Paper Development Workshop, hosted by QUT Business School, Brisbane, Australia.
Keynote speakers
Professor Jennifer Oetzel’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic and environmental sustainability. Specifically, she looks at how companies can reduce business risk by promoting economic, social, and environmental development as well as peace building in countries where they operate. Jenifer has won multiple research awards, with her work appearing in the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Harvard Business Review, and the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), among other outlets. Jennifer’s most recent book is Business Adaptation to Climate Change (Cambridge University Press.)
Professor Allan Bird’s research focuses on effective leadership and management at the intersections of culture in global contexts. Interests include the assessment and development of individual and organizational competencies, and diversity, inclusion and equity in intercultural interactions. Since 2001 Allan has served as President of The Kozai Group, Inc., an international consulting firmed focused on identifying and developing exceptional talent. Allan’s publications appear in JIBS, Journal of World Business, International Business Review, Academy of Management Journal, among others. He is a reviewing editor for the Journal of International Business Studies.
Indicative Schedule
DAY 1: We meet early on Thursday 24 November for the Research Symposium. This is a full day of research paper presentations, panel sessions, insights from our invited keynote speakers and dedicated mentoring for Women in Academy of International Business. We conclude with an early dinner, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the tropical evening of Brisbane.
DAY 2: We continue on Friday with small group Paper Development Workshops in which mentors and mentees are matched. We also plan interactive panels with Journal Editors and ‘spotlights’ on, for example, research methods, engagement and career development.

Submissions open from 15 August to 4 September. We anticipate authors will be notified by 26 September. Please visit AIB Oceania for submission links once the submission period opens.
PAPER PRESENTATIONS & PANELS
Please submit your 1000 word abstract (not a full paper) of your international business research in-progress or panel proposal for the Research Symposium.
PAPER DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP
Please submit your paper of not more than 30 pages double spaced. Include contact details of all authors. Full papers are desirable but not essential as early stage ideas with a clear conceptual development and framing are also welcome.
REGISTRATION
Registration opens mid-October and is available only to members of the Academy of International Business (AIB) who are current at the time of the meeting. Non-members of AIB will need to join. To become a member of the AIB, please visit: https://aib.msu.edu/membership/. Regular membership is US$120 (US$40 for full-time students) and brings a host of benefits. A modest registration fee will likely apply to part-cover catering costs.
